Mutua intrapreneurs present their projects at Demo Day

01 Demo Day

Mutua held the 5th edition of its Demo Day, part of its Intrapreneurship Program, with an online attendance of 360 people. More than 50 employees participated in the Program and developed 7 projects, 3 of which were awarded a prize.

New in this edition, it was employees who selected the 7 final projects for development during the Program. Projects fell under the following categories: Mobility, Cybersecurity, Health, Home, Data Analysis, Sustainability and HR. Multidisciplinary teams were created to provide different perspectives from various fields, enriching the final value proposition.

Mentors from Tetuan Valley gave online training sessions for team members on design thinking, lean startup, prototype development, communication and idea pitch throughout the more than five months of work on the Project. Finally, they worked on business cases, designed an implementation plan for the idea and held meetings with startups to understand similar business models, or find potential synergies and collaborations.

A plenary session was also held, where employees learnt first-hand about the evolution of several successful startups like BNext, Singular Cover, Elma or OnTruck; from the inception of the idea until the present, solving every problem they encountered along the way. There was also a talk to analyze the differences between some of the vehicles for innovation most frequently found in the ecosystem: business accelerators, venture capitals, venture clients.

The two best-rated projects were Mutua Freestyle and intelligence applied to customer knowledge

They all presented their projects before a jury made up of the President and General Manager of the Mutua Group, the General Directors of Mutua Madrileña, SegurCaixa Adeslas and BCI Seguros and the Executive Vice-President of Seguros del Estado.

For the first time in the 2020 edition, Jury votes were tied. The two most highly rated projects were Mutua Freestyle and Intelligence applied to customer knowledge, with participants from Mutua Madrileña, BCI Seguros and Seguros del Estado. Third place went to Senior Preventive Medicine, led by Adeslas and Mutua Madrileña. It is worth noting that all the projects presented received at least one vote from the Jury.

The Mutua Freestyle team suggested the integration of complementary coverage for car insurance, adapting it to new forms of shared and individual mobility.

Intelligence applied to customer knowledge, for their part, developed a business model that uses artificial intelligence to offer solutions for all the problems insurance companies run into when contacting customers.

Senior Preventive Medicine designed a comprehensive, proactive marketplace for health services, where customers may contact experts remotely and even check their medical history.

All other projects also showed a great amount of work and a clear vision for the future. They were inspiring not only because of the ideas they presented, but also because of the effort and ambition displayed by team members.

The following is a brief description:

  • CiberMutua: insurance geared to restoring a company’s operational continuity as quickly as possible, covering damages caused by a cyberattack.
  • EcoMutua Hogar: a home insurance ecosystem based on sustainability that offers environmental improvement services for new customers.
  • Estamos Contigo: ecosystem based on the integration of smart sensors and remote healthcare assistance, with autonomous identification and a notification service for family members and emergency services.
  • OnBoarding Mutua: a new integrated and digital onboarding model that reduces real onboarding times for employees, increases their productivity and increases brand engagement.

Thanks to the excellent work by employees and great relevance of the projects presented, these can be considered for implementation with the help of the appropriate business areas or Innovation.
